Who’s Alice Lafferty?
I began my teaching career as the oldest of 4 siblings. 🙂 I graduated from Amarillo High School (a Sandie!) and worked on college and growing my family at the same time (which is a real challenge and makes my degrees very precious.) I had 4 children and intertwined a BS degree in Academic Studies with a minor in English from Sam Houston State.
My career began in Pasadena ISD near Houston about the time technology in education began taking off. I LOVED IT. I went back to UNT and got a MS degree in Educational Technology (Technology and Cognitive Development) as well as a Master Technology Teacher certification. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram – anywhere people connect through social media (and please do).
I taught in two east Texas districts, Canton and Wills Point where I taught at the junior high. I have been provided many opportunities for growth and learning. Small school districts have some of the hardest working teachers. Everyone wears many different hats and working with these amazing people makes every day a joy. I have taught over 1500 8th graders over the past several years and am overwhelmed by the honor and responsibility that entails.
2014- 2015 I am beginning a new journey as Secondary Instructional Coach at Quinlan ISD. I can’t wait to begin – it’s exactly what I love to do.
Last year I received my principal certification and this year my superintendent certification. My biggest joy is learning! I have a sign posted above my desk, “Chief Learner”, and I truly mean that.
In my home time I read/write, garden, crochet, bug my kids to visit more often, spend time with friends outside (particularly involving a fire and stars) and learn about life through deep conversations.
